Caerphilly homes and their wiring
Caerphilly grew fast in the coal and railway years. The station opened in 1871 and the Rhymney Railway built its works here in 1899. Many of the terraces near the town centre come from that time of growth.
In a house that old, the first wiring went long ago. What I tend to find is a rewire from decades back, an old fuse box with no RCD and sockets added one at a time by different owners. A safety check shows you where you stand.
Lansbury Park is a different story. The council built it in the 1960s and the first homes opened in 1965. Around 500 homes there were done up in a large council contract. Homes that were bought from the council may have missed that work, so it pays to check when the fuse box and wiring were last updated.
On the newer homes around the edge of town, the wiring is modern. There the work is extra sockets, outside lights and car chargers.
